Summary:

This study evaluates the reliability of the Modified Fels knee skeletal maturity system (mFels) and the associated mobile app to assess skeletal maturity, with a focus on new users.

Methods:

20 pediatric knee radiographs were evaluated by new users using the "What’s the Skeletal Maturity?" mobile app. Their results were compared with those of the app developers.

Exclusions:

Not specified

Results:

Inter-rater reliability for mFels parameters ranged from 0.73 to 0.91. Inter-rater reliability for skeletal age estimates was 0.98. Proficiency in skeletal age estimation was achieved by the seventh radiograph evaluated.

Conclusions:

mFels is a reliable method for skeletal maturity evaluation. First-time users of the mobile app, without special training, demonstrated proficiency by the seventh radiograph.
